Dream Valley: Recent History
For a time after the reign of the Shadoh, Dream Valley lived in peace, the ponies getting on with their everyday lives in a normal matter. All thoughts of evil and darkness had been forgotten as the years passed and it really was like living in a very pleasant - if rather boring - dream. But the dream turned to a nightmare, with the arrival of Scorpan and his Stratadons.
As ponies were captured and turned to large, dragon-like beasts, one pony took it upon herself to find help, and managed to find the Rainbow Bridge between the worlds. On the other side she met a girl named Megan, and deciding that this strange human creature must be the answer to their prayers, brought her back across the bridge to Ponyland.
Although the human girl was courageous enough, Scorpan had managed to retrieve the Dark Rainbow from the Shadoh that once ruled the land, and used it against the ponies and Megan. The ponies knew the only thing that could stop the Dark Rainbow and its owner was the Rainbow of Light, but it had been lost centuries before during the rule of the Shadoh. In a last desperate attempt to save Ponyland, the human girl and a select group of ponies made for the home of a mysterious being, rumored to be able to help. His name was the Moonchick.
Turns out, the Moonchick had the Rainbow of Light, but he was so absent-minded that he just kept forgetting to give it back to the ponies after the defeat of the Shadoh. He claimed to have been holding onto it during the dark times for its own protection, and since he finally did give it back the ponies couldn’t be too mad, although they were none too happy with him either.
As they returned home to find it once again flooded in darkness, the human girl opened the locket and released the Rainbow of Light, trapped these many years. It did battle with the Dark Rainbow, and although it had been weakened by its long stay in the locket, it triumphed over Scorpan and his Dark Rainbow. Things were righted by the Rainbow, and it returned to its locket, to be kept in safety in the vaults of Dream Valley’s castle.
As things have a tendency to do after a tumultuous period, Dream Valley returned to somewhat normal daily life, Megan returned home to the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, and the Rainbow was kept safe in its locket. As summer died off into winter, and the long, cold nights eventually thawed into spring once again, the ponies celebrated. But not for long.
A witch named Hydia plans her own revenge on the ponies, for destroying her fiancé Scorpan and leaving her a lonely old miser with only her two, very stupid, sisters as company. Scorpan had been evil, yes, but at least he was intelligent. She concocted her own plan to ruin Ponyland once and for all, and created the Smooze, a purple blob that swept through Dream Valley, covering everything in sight with its grim slime.
Once again, Megan was summoned over the Rainbow Bridge by two ponies (her sister and brother demanded to come as well, although they did nothing but hinder the group from then on). When she released the Rainbow of Light this time, however, the Rainbow was swallowed by the Smooze, leaving the ponies and humans weaponless. With no other plan, they had no choice but to see the Moonchick again.
Wanting nothing more than to get these pestering ponies off his back (they were obviously still upset with him over that little stealing-the-Rainbow stunt), he told them to go find the flutter ponies who lived in Flutter Valley, knowing full well that the Flutter Ponies weren’t apt to help. Still, it would get them out of his hair for a while!
So Megan and the ponies visited Flutter Valley, where their entrance did not amuse the queen. She refused to help them until a kind flutter who had seen the damage done by the Smooze spoke up on their behalf. Grudgingly, the flutter ponies followed the other to Dream Valley, where they used their power of Utter Flutter to blow the Smooze all the way back to the Volcano of Gloom. The Rainbow of Light is released and runs back to its locket, where it is once again stored safely within the Castle vaults.
The ponies took Megan and her siblings home, and they have morphed into legend in Ponyland – only the ponies that met them first-hand believe that they had ever actually been there. They weren’t the last to come over the Rainbow Bridge, but they were the most famous.
