Name: Roxanne
Age: 32
Type: Female 3Gen earthling, nonmagic
Coloration: A shimmery caramel-colored body, white hair with copper tinsel, green eyes (which turn blue when the blue stripe of the rainbow takes hold of her)
Symbol: A thick white feather plume, curved at the tip
Looks:
Roxanne is of average size and build. Save for the unusual copper tinsel in her mane and tail, she's nothing special as far as beauty goes, and spends virtually no energy on her appearance. Her physical uniqueness lies in the way she carries herself - very strong and centered, as befits one with stage training. She also has a certain sharpness to her motions: the flick of her ears, thingy of her head, and switch of her tail. And she uses her body and face to their full abilities - Roxy has never been one to restrain herself. She grins widely, winks a lot, delights in the subtleties of facial expression; and she uses her stance to express her emotions with a hunched shoulder or a hoof tapping the ground.
Powers:
When she was 30 years old, Roxanne was taken over by the blue stripe of the Rainbow of Light, the stripe whose quality is Charisma. In addition to turning her eyes blue and adding a blue mark to her ankle, it gave her the ability to muster her verbal abilities to influence others. She can summon the power of the blue stripe to give advice to others, and in extreme cases to tell others what to do; but this is a power she will only use where she feels it is necessary.
Personality:
Roxy is a good-hearted pony, without question. She is often exuberantly cheerful and always trying to spread her wide grin to the faces of others. Her mood in public is almost always upbeat, and she is never afraid to speak up or crack a loud joke - being a theatre pony, the spotlight far from bothers her (not that she's a diva, just outgoing). She is definitely thingyy, with more than a bit of an attitude, but this rarely becomes malicious and she certainly never bites without provocation. When she gets quite angry, it is quite explosive and she is prone to yelling and swearing; but this a rare occurance and usually her negative moods only reach the extent of annoyance, frustration or exhaustion.
The most unique of Roxanne's characteristics, however, is her speech. She is quite eccentric and is known for her inventive wording and choices of phrase. She often uses theatrical references and invents strange and completely inoffensive curses. She also delights in reviving dated or obscure phrases, and takes others from outside cultures; as a result, her speech is a complete mix, and can be confusing to those who are not used to it.
Roxy is generous, helpful, and welcoming; she has many friends and makes new ones out of almost everyone she meets. She is not the smartest of ponies but her common sense and good nature suffice to gain her a solid place in the citizenship of Ponyville.
History:
Roxanne was born in Stratford-on-Rainbow, a small quaint town by the side of the Rainbow River. Her parents were good ponies and raised her with love, discipline, and other such reasonable things. She was a sensible and cheerful foal. When she was five years old her parents decided to move to the city - perhaps they felt their filly would benefit most from a childhood in a bustling and civilized place.
One day as a 7-year-old in Ponyville, bored by her lack of extracurricular activities, Roxanne auditioned for the Ponyville Players and was accepted as a junior member. Her company membership, although gained on a lark, soon revealed to her that she did indeed have a life calling: the theatre.
She grew up doing little but going to school, eating, sleeping... and every free moment was spent at the theater. She soon grew to be one of the most well-respected members of the company, even as a teenager, and was the first junior member to earn full membership in the Ponyville Players before the age of 18.
When she was 20 years old, the owner/director of the theater at the time announced his retirement, and appointed Roxanne as his successor, despite her youth. She was beyond thrilled, and enthusiastically moved out of her parents' house, set herself up in the loft, and assumed control over the Center Stage.
The decade since then proved fruitful for both herself and the theater. She ran many productions, made many friends, and kept Ponyville drama alive and thriving through her involvement in all of the shows, whether it be through directing or even simply working in the costume department. Once the theater was hers she felt it would not be right for her to star in any of her productions; but occasionally to satisfy her longing for the spotlight she would take a small role.
When she was 27, both of her parents died from old age. Roxy was, of course, devastated, but although her heart ached for a long time after that, she had already been self-sufficient for a long time, so it was not a crippling blow to her lifestyle.
The only real blip in her otherwise normal life occured very recently, in her 30th year. During a rare catastrophe, the colors of the Dark Rainbow appeared in the form of monochromatic ponies to wreak havoc on Ponyville. One of them - an Orange pony named Glasye - broke into the theater on a malicious whim, and when Roxy followed him onto the stage, he collapsed the entire lighting system down upon her. In the shower of metal tracking and glass bulbs, Roxy was luckily not seriously injured, but her body was covered in tiny cuts and bruises; they are no longer visible, but she will always carry a few of those scars. Glasye escaped, and Roxanne, furious, subsequently allowed herself to be possessed by the Blue stripe of the Rainbow of Light - the stripe whose talent was Charisma. She never fought directly in the ensuing battle, however, for she was still disoriented from shock, and the Rainbow of Light won the war mostly without her aid. Most of that time is a blur to her. She was left with a blue spot on the bottom of one hoof as a physical reminder of goodness and the power within her.
Interesting fact:
Her favorite play is Cyrano de Bergerac, and her favorite musical is Chicago - both of these feature heroines named Roxanne.
